Road To Freedom

Why start the tour?…

I care about it. People have a variety of different interests and passions. I have a few that I obsess about and one is creating projects and content and the other is helping others to achieve their creative dreams.

This career in the arts has been a healing journey for me as well. I didn’t get introduced to my native culture until my early 20s and it changed my life, it connected me to a calming peace within myself and a spiritual grounding that I haven’t felt anywhere else. It drove me to want to learn and explore my culture and history even further.

I was hired to speak to the youth at a few communities and after speaking and getting to know the people in the community, it reminded me of family instantly. Lots of laughter, curious conversations and entertaining storytelling.

I remember the feeling after the first workshop our program put in a first nation community, it made me realize these youth have all that it takes to excel in this career. They’re natural storytellers, natural performers and they express their emotions with humility eager to learn the next steps. I admired their focus and their courage to take part in such an expressive workshop.

Only thing they are missing is the hands-on training, education and mentorship in the areas of arts such as filmmaking, Film acting, writing and content creating

Growing up I had access to all of this I was fortunate not enough to have a play in my school at an early age it help me find a passion that help drive the next 25 years of my life it brought me to a career in the film industry travelling across the country working with and speaking to thousands of people

It’s also brought in ambition and reason for me to go down a healing journey because as they say in order to be a better artist you must you must become a better person

You develop skills along the way and learning new skills develops a tremendous amount of focus and discipline drugs and alcohol can take me away from that and they have in the past so it forced me down it encouraged me down a journey that I may not of been so persuaded to go down without this passion for the arts

I care about helping the underdog and I feel like first nation communities are the underdog in the grand scheme of our country and the fact that they can still laugh and persevere and survive together isolated and discriminated against makes me view them as very courageous ambitious and it admirable people

They’ve constantly endured and yet continue to persevere I feel there are a lot of leader ship and strength building skills and mindset that they can teach us

And I just feel the youth have everything it takes to achieve their dreams in the arts and it’s our mission to bring that training and education to them we want to reach every community in Canada from coast to coast to coast because they deserve the same options and opportunities in the film and content creating industries as anyone else They to have a voice and stories they want to share feelings they want to express and art they want to showcase I don’t mind competition as long as the rules are fair so let’s make it a fair game so that we all can have the same shot that happiness and success
